The equipment of the roman soldiers distinguished according to the function of the troop. The ranks made also differences.

The following figures show soldiers from the time between the 1st century and the 3rd century AD.

Centurio Centurion

The Centurion is an officer, which commanded a Centuries (approx. 80 men). According to the kind of the equipment it could here be a question of a Centurion of an auxiliary troop.

Vitis (commando stick)

Caligae (shoes)

Legionnaire

With the opposite soldier it is a question of a legionnaire. Therefore a soldier with roman civil right.

Legionär
Hilfssoldat Auxiliary soldier

Here it is a question of an auxiliary soldier. Therefore a soldier without roman civil right (at least in most cases).
