29.08.2005, Malojapass |
The Malojapass was crossed in roman time more directly and more northern than today.
At the coordinates 772 950/141 250
west of the pass is today visible a stretch of cart ruts. This ramp with a gradient
of 25 - 30 % is chiseled in a single boulder. It has 14 stage-like lateral grooves. 6
holes which should prevent maybe the slip back of the carts by means of levers are on the side. Possibly this
boulder moved since roman time und was in roman time less steep.
On the eastern side of the pass
are at the coordinates 772 020/142 980 further stretches of cart ruts visible. The
gauge is identical with the western side: 107 cm. In the proximity was found in
1999/2000 a roman hippo sandal (predecessor of the horseshoe).
