Different traces indicate the use of this pass in roman time. At the coordinates 773 805/148 420 was found in the year 2002 a coin of the 1st to 3rd century AD and several spines from roman hoof shoes. At this place is also an old way visible.
Below La Veduta on the western side of the Julierpasses
are visible cart ruts at various places. The gauge is 107 cm, sporadic, however, also 115 cm.
In the years 1934 - 39 were
found on the pass the rests of a rectangular wall building from 5 to 5 meters.
It was a question of the rests of the pass sanctuary. Two column parts of this sanctuary
are set up today on both sides of the pass street. Once they formed a column. Furthermore
were found among other things cornice pieces, fragments of a masculine statue and the
fragment of a consecration inscription to the alps.
On the pass were found also various coins. In 1854 were found about 200 coins. It was a question of a treasure or a consecration. These coins begin with Tiberius Iulius Caesar Augustus (14 - 37 AD) and end with Flavius Gratianus (367 - 383 AD). In the 4th century the number of the coins increases. A coin comes even from the vandal Geiserich (428 - 477).
