In the
area of the present Roemerstrasse existed around AD 100 a bath-building which appertained to a roman villa
rustica.
The building was oriented to northeast and was 15 meters above the bottom of a valley. It was 15.5 meters long and 8.50 meters broad. From the 5 rooms 2 owned a hypocaust and a mosaic floor (caldarium and tepidarium). Against the end of the 2nd century a cold water basin was added onto the western corner, what enlarged the building around 3.5 meters. In the frigidarium was a mosaic floor too. It was black on white and decorated with geometrical models. The mural painting rests in this room indicate, that this was illustrated with a water scenery.
The building was given up against the end of the 4th century.
In the rooms different subjects were found: 2 coins of Flavius Julius Constantius (Constantius II) (AD 337 - 361), a counter metal fitting and pieces of pottery.
Remark of the author: The book "Die Römer in der Schweiz (The Roman in Switzerland)" does not mention, from who the coins are. This is mentioned only on the home page of Niedergoesgen and the description besides the local plan near the post office (the indicated time of reign (337 - 340) would apply however to Konstantin II). The mentioned book dates the end of use before the year AD 250, the home page against the end of the 4th century.
