In the field Heinimuerler was once a roman farm. This field name comes from Heidenmuerli (heath wall).
The mansion was on a small terrace 70 meters
above the valley. It was oriented to south-southwest, with view into the Wehntal.
In the last stage this mansion was 43 meters long and 35 meters broad. The nucleus was a living-tract (approx. 26 to 13 meters). A porticus was on the valley side in front of it.
In a later stage were added annexes with further living rooms on this south side. The Porticus was presumably expanded horseshoe-shaped. Even later a small bath was added on the west side.
The separate bath-building was approximately 10 meters east of the northeast corner. After three conversions it was approx. 14 to 22 meters large and had 8 rooms. 4 of them had a hypocaust and were heated from a single room. In this room was an oven, too.
The discovery and exploration of this roman villa extends over several stages. In 1850 was discovered a water pipe and in 1857 a hypocaust. A further hypocaust was found in 1889. 1913/14 was examined the mansion and the bath-building.
The finds were sparse. In the eastern annex of the mansion were found the rests of a mosaic floor. This had an orthogonal rhombus stellar report and is dated in the time around 157 to 200 AD. In the room north of the mosaic were found greater mural painting rests. Parts of the mural painting and cornice fragments were in the bath-building. Furthermore a column with capital and fragments of half columns of lime were discovered. As small finds are mentioned weapons, dishes and coins. The mosaic is today in the Swiss Federal State Museum in Zurich.
A Heinimuerlerstrasse and a Roemerweg are today in the northwest part of Oberweningen. The farm could have been there.
The local plan near the parish hall mentions that the excavation was covered. Excavations from 1926 and 2002 are mentioned, too. At latter was found a bronze bust of Minerva besides an adjoining building. This building is interpreted as a warehouse.
