In the early 1st century AD was built a roman farm on the present Wilberg.
The mansion of this villa
rustica was in the end approx. 56 to 29 meters large. It was oriented to north, with look into the Aare
valley. The heart of this building was a hall from 29 to 17.5 meters. A living-wing
with a broad of 7 meters was added at the eastern side. In front of the northern facade
was a porticus.
In a later phase was built a large annex in the northwest corner. It had among other things 2 rooms with hypocausts. Near the northeast corner was built a bath wing.
In the annex were mosaics and mural paintings. The bath wing had mural paintings, too.
Other finding material were for example coins and pieces of pottery. The villa was left around the middle of the 3rd century.
The book "The Roman in Switzerland" mentions an excavation from 1904/05. A notice on site mentions finds from the years 1931/32.
