The amphitheater war built at the beginning of the 2nd century AD. The arena was 61.5 to 38.5 meters large.
On January, 21st 259 were burnt to death the bishop Fructuosus und his deacons Augurius and Eulogius at this place. Because of this was built a Christian basilica in the former arena at the end of the 6th century.
