Colonia Iulia Romula Hispalis (Seville)

Back to the report about Spain

Unfortunately I don't know much about the history of this city during the roman time.

Settlement traces from the bell beaker culture are known. Following the Phoenicians, the Greeks and after them the Carthaginians settled here.

AqueductAround the year 205 BC the city was conquered by the Romans. The province Beatica - founded around the year 27 BC - was divided into four court parishes (conventus iuridici). These were Gades (Cádiz), Colonia Patricia Corduba (Cordoba), Colonia Astigi (Écija) and Colonia Iulia Romula Hispalis (Seville).

TempleThe today visible remains of the roman Sevilla are sparse. In the street los Mármoles are three columns of a temple of the forum. 4 more columns of this temple are today in the Almeda de Hercules. In the Avenida de Louis Montoto are some rests of arches from an aqueduct.
