Acinipo (Ronda la Vieja)

Back to the report about Spain

I have only a few information about this city.

The site is on a hill, which is 1'000 meters above sea. Already in the Bronze Age existed here between 1'100 and 750 BC a settlement.

TheaterIn the 1st century AD the settlement had its largest extension with 32 hectares. The number of inhabitants was at this time approximately 5'000 citizens. The city had the right to mint coins.

In the year 429 AD the city was destroyed.

Obviously the Byzantines settled here again. But they gave the city the name of the near Arunda (Ronda). The Visigoths destroyed the city definitively.

Near the entry to the excavation place are some rests of buildings that are supposed to be from the Bronze Age. From the Roman time are to see some foundations from forum buildings. ForumFrom the theater is next to the seats the back wall (scaena) preserved. Besides are about the whole ground stone heaps spread. No structure is to make out however.

The information about the opening hours in the year 2004 (not posted on site) were a little inconsistent:

bullet

bullet
