The city wall of the roman city was built in the 1st century BC. The lower part was made of large polygonal blocks of calcareous stone. Above this there was a second level of concrete mixed with small stones. This part was filled with earth and stones.
On the picture is visible the south gate, it led via cardo maximus to the forum.
