Saturday, 17.07.2004 - Thun, Berne

Site of the temple district? In roman time was a temple district in the present Thun-Allmendigen. I refer also to the report of the 15.09.2001. In this report I mention newer knowledge's.

At roman time the landscape around the temples looked different. The three rivers Kander, Aare and Zulg flew together in the north of the present Thun. The delta of the Kander began 30 meters north of the temple district. At inundation a lake arose at the confluence of the Kander, Aare and Zulg. The sanctuary itself was protected from the inundation however. Only in later time it was in the inundation zone, too.

The temple district had two parts. The temples (5 smaller ones and 2 larger ones), at least 2 water cymbals and an altar were in the south (sacral district). In the north were the outhouses and accommodations.

Due to inscriptions and statue fragments is to assume that following deities were worshiped: Iupiter, Mercury, Neptune, Alp goods, Diana, Minerva, a mother deity and a not identifiable goddess. Following votives were given: clay figures, gold sheet metal in palm form, reduced copies (axes, cups, little bells), perfume vials, coins, dishes, primers and jewelry.

The profane district in the north had at least 4 half-timbered houses. Next to the personnel also travelers were accommodated here maybe.
