In the middle of the 1st century
AD was built in the present field "Chalchofen" a roman farm.
This villa rustica was oriented from north to south. The enclosure was 110 meters long and 60 meters broad. The pars urbana and the pars rustica had approximately the same size.
In the northern part were at least the mansion and an adjoining building. The mansion was in the middle of the pars urbana and oriented to south. It was 21.5 to 15.5 meters large. It had a central a hall, with a longish room on the northern side and three living rooms on the western side. Furthermore it had two corner projections in the south, between which ones should have been a porticus - presumably of timber.
The middle one of the western rooms had a stove.
In a further building stage was built at the western projection a bath with two rooms, which had a hypocaust.
The adjoining house was 12 to 10 meters large. It was presumably a question of an economy building.
The excavations from 1884 - 1886 mention as finding material "pieces of painted walls in two rooms". Furthermore pieces of pottery and coins were found. This all indicates a modest equipment. A further adjoining house was only presumed.
The farm seems to have been left in the 3rd century.
Today no remains of the villa rustica are to be seen.
