In the northeast of the present Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne
was built in the early 1st century AD a roman farm.
From the mansion of the villa rustica were dug up two big rooms in the east, a corridor and a porticus.
From the construction of the bath-house is only the following known: in some rooms were found hypocaust heating and at least one basin existed. Three mosaic floors were discovered also. One is obviously preserved still today (where?). At further objects are known: fragments of marble slabs, two columns, a lead pipe and a tap. Few rests of the wall paintings were Pompeian-red, ocher and green. Tufts of grass were drawn in the base zone.
The farm was used at least until the early 3rd century.
The mentioned knowledge comes obviously from excavations of the years 1878 and 1893. Presumable at the end of the Nineties an excavation had to occur because of a planned by-pass street in the north of Cheseaux. In this case was obviously investigated a metal workshop.
I know the following fields as places of finding: "Montagny" and "Cologny" (municipality Cheseaux) and "Le Buy" (municipality Morrens). Latter is not drawn in any map. The farm could have been approximately at the coordinates 536 640/160 160. The mansion stood presumably in the east of this place.
Today nothing is to be seen from the farm.
