Saturday, 05.06.2004 - Chancy, Geneva

Site of the fort?In the Bois des Crevasses south of the present Chancy was a roman farm. Later was built a fort instead of the villa rustica.

It was built at least in two stages. The second one was under Flavius Valentinianus (AD 364 - 375).

The fort was investigated in the 20ies of the 20th century, but I have no more information about it.

The book "Die Römer in der Schweiz" (the Roman in Switzerland) mentions the coordinates 421 450/110 650 for the fort. But this place is west of Switzerland. On the map 1 : 25 000 (Chancy, edition 2000) is written to the right next to a building "castrum romain". This building is at the coordinates 486 490/110 560. It is a question of a club building. Also in the surroundings is nothing visible.
