Alphen aan de Rijn (Albaniana) Back to the report about the Netherlands

The fort at this place was presumably built because of various courses of rivers. The Aar flow from north, a today silt up gully flow from the south into the Rhine.

Until today the whole ground plan is not known. Therefore it is unsaved whether it was a question of a fort - however probable. Remains of wooden huts and stone foundations were found.

The oldest military finds are approx. from the year AD 40, the oldest hut comes approx. from the year 50. Due to brick seals it is presumed that the cohors VI breucorum was stationed here since flavian time. For the time is presumed a military presence up to the middle of the 3rd century.

Rests of the fort village were found in the east and west of it.

Today no traces of this fort are to be seen. In the Templesouth is however the Archeon. It is a question of a leisure park, in which buildings of different eras are reproduced. From the roman time these are in particular: an amphitheater, a bath house, a temple and a restaurant.
