| Walferdange/Helmsange | Back to the report about Luxembourg |
In the quarter Sonnebierg in Helmsange was until the 4th century AD a roman villa.
It was very large. It looked
like that in Echternach, but was a little smaller.
A water collecting system was on the hill Raschpëtzer. About several hundred meters the water from the hill was collected and supplied presumably the villa in Helmsange. Obviously other villas were even supplied with this water.
At
intervals of some meters were servicing tunnels.
The system
was investigated in the
last years, however, the whole
course is not known yet.
The villa can be visited at any time. The descriptions weren't at place during my visit - although the posts were already prepared. The water collecting system is also at any time open. However, the shafts can be seen only from above. Two of that are lighted up. A shaft is furthermore accessible at Sunday from 14.30 to 17.30 o'clock (April, 1st to October, 31st).
