Grevenmacher Back to the report about Luxembourg

The Grevenmacherberg - or Mont Romain - lies on the motorway near Grevenmacher.

Here was a roman farm. The grave monument from the second quarter of the 2nd century AD was built Grave monumentpresumably by its master. It was probably 12 meters high. It had a some meters long wall. At its end were smaller side walls. Onto the long wall was another wall, which had a roof. The building was decorated with relief figures and surrounded with an enclosure.

From the origin of the monument are three fire graves known. In the second half of the 3rd century the tomb was destroyed. In spite of that two fire graves and 14 body burials from the 4th century were found.

Grave monumentThe grave monument was reconstructed, however, not in the full height. The rests of the farm were destroyed presumably at the building of the motorway.
