At the edge of a
artificial lake - which was laid out only in the modern age - was built around
AD 60/70 a farm.
It was expanded during the years.
Finally the mansion had a
longish part with several rooms. At its end were further side parts with rooms on both sides.
In front of the porticus was a big water
basin.
The main building had two floors and was 62 to 118 meters big.
On the rear was also a porticus. Obviously the building kept on being used after the Germanic raids. The rooms were altered for the requirements. The house was inhabited until the 5th century.
The
house had following rooms: reception room, lounges, bedroom, kitchen, bath rooms,
basins, basements and rooms for servants. At the beginning were 40 later up to 70 rooms in the ground floor.
The whole mansion was conserved and is accessible. Opening hours:
