At the present street Esplanade was in Roman time a villa. It was destroyed presumably by the Francs.
Today
are three mosaics from the 3rd century preserved. The first is rectangle with
geometrical figures, which surround a lion. The second mosaic was above a hypocaust. From this only the
apsis survived.
On a third mosaic are represented flowers, which ones are surrounded by geometrical figures. A face is in the middle. It looks different from the point of view: bearded head with bald head/youthful face. Furthermore brick rests of a hypocaust remained preserved.
The church St. Laurentius goes back to a
adjoining building of this villa. The western and southern wall are in the heart roman. This up to a height of 7 meters. This room
had a channel heating. The use of the building is not known.
The mosaics and the rests of the heating are displayed in the Urban Museum. This is opened daily from 10 to 12 o'clock and 14 to 18 o'clock. Similar opening hours are valid for the excavations under the church St. Laurentius.
