| Belgium / Luxemburg |
This region was already conquered under Gaius Iulius Caesar.
In the year 27 BC the province Gallia Belgica was founded. It contained also the Dutch region of the roman empire and a part of the present France. Province capital was Reims (Durocortorum Remorum).
Due to raids and defeats against opposing tribes in 16 BC a stripe along the Rhine became a military split off zone. This field contained approximately the roman region of the present Netherlands. However, the most parts of the present provinces Limburg and Noord-Brabant kept on appertaining to the province Gallia Belgica.
Among Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus (284 - 305) were divided the provinces again. This applied also for Gallia Belgica (Belgica I and Belgica II).
Remark to this report: The source situation in the current literature is different. As a foundation date of the province Gallia Belgica is also listed AD 16.
