Sunday, 22.06.2003 - Ostermundigen, Berne
I took the information about this place from the annual report of the Swiss society for primeval and early history, number 86, 2003.
At the coordinates 603 980/199 150 was examined a roman villa, which is known since 1830, on the occasion of a possible railway track enlargement of the Swiss Federal Railways. This excavation is still laid open, no information on site are however available.
Known are
at least two building stages. The first of timber, the second of timber and stone. Two excavation places are
visible. At the first
(more south-eastern) are visible stone walls: a decayed side wall and three
separating walls. At the second (more northwest) is only a discoloration of the ground
visible that looks as a wall (clay wall?).
From the site one had a splendid view on the alps.
