Saturday, 21.06.2003 - Sarmenstorf, Aargau
Around the middle of the 1st century AD a roman villa was built in the present Murimooshau.
This was oriented to west and had thus view on Jura, Middle land and eastern Swiss Alps. Yet not onto the Hallwilersee. The central building was 21 to 58 meters large and had some living rooms and a kitchen. In the west of it was a porticus which had in the south and north corner projections.
In the
south was built later a bath and altered presumably in the 2nd century. It had a
winter living room with hypocaust, apodyterium,
frigidarium, tepidarium,
caldarium and praefurnium. A basement-like room which was presumably pleasantly cool in the summer was
under the north corner projection.
The building was destroyed before the year 200 by a fire.
