Saturday, 21.06.2003 - Bettwil, Aargau
In the southeast corner of the school area - more exactly at the coordinates 662 700/238 150 - are set up today two "landmarks".
One is
of granite the other one of sandstone and has engraved the date 1683.
In the book "The Roman in Switzerland"
is mentioned
the conjecture, that at least the second in spite of the date comes initially from a
roman farm. The villa in Sarmenstorf (visited also on 21.06.2003) and the villa in the field
"Steinmueri" south of the village Bettwil are mentioned in this case.
On the local plan of Bettwil is no such field mentioned. In the west of the village is the field "Steiacher". Nothing is visible however, neither west nor south of the village. That the villa in Schongau is meant (visited also on 21.06.2003) with that is however unlikely.
In the book "The Roman in Switzerland" is mentioned, that it initially was a question of 4 "landmarks", from which the present ones are left. A resident told however to me that in the case of the building of the school building two columns of granite were found. One crumbled, the other one is one of the today visible stones.
