At the
site of the present church St. Jakob was built in the 1st century AD a roman
villa.
It used totally 200 to 400 meters. The precise architecture is not however known. One knows however a sewer system of bricks, an about 7 meters long hypocaust, a stoke room and also a cryptoporticus.
From the last are preserved parts of the mural painting from the base and the ceiling. The base had flower motives. The ceiling painting existed of a so-called cross blossom report (circular garlands, every circle cuts itself with 4 circles and touches 4 further). This way of painting refers into the second half of the second century or onto the beginning of the 3rd century AD.
The farm was given up in the 4th century.
Today 3
pillars are set up near the church (one of lime, two of granite). The mural painting is in the Musée d'art & d'histoire in
Freiburg.
