Whether in fact
this town was called Mirobriga or
whether this was
at another place is unsaved. Already from the Iron Age settlement traces are
known. The oppidum came in the 2nd century BC under roman influence. The full
Romanizing toke place in the 1st century AD.
Presumable at the time
of Titus Flavius Vespasianus (AD 69 to 79) the place was raised to a municipium
. Until the 3rd century Mirobriga
stayed densely populated. The population decreased in the 4th century however. When exactly the place was given up is not known to me.
Today are streets, a bridge, houses, tabernae, the forum and two big bath-buildings visible. Some hundred meters besides the town are the rests of a hippodrome visible.
