This town was built already in pre-roman time. Under the Romans it was raised to a municipium.
Today still some remains from this time are to be seen. From the forum temple are still the podium and 14 of the 18 Corinthian columns erected. The temple was built in the 1st century AD. A small part of the forum wall might be visible in the museum.
From the thermal springs from the 1st century
AD are visible the laconium and the
praefurnium. An arch belonged to a town gate.
A domus from the 1st/2nd century AD from which part of the mural paintings are visible was covered in the 3rd century by the town wall.
