Aquae Flaviae (Chaves)

Bridge Back to the about over Portugal

I don't know much about this town. Under Titus Flavius Vespasianus (AD 69 - 79) it was raised to a municipium obvious around AD 73 or 74.

Furthermore a fort or similar building must have been here. Since it was altered by the Moors, it was used at the end of the Roman occupation and not at the beginning.

The only today visible roman building is a bridge. It was built at the time of Marcus Ulpius Traianus (AD 98 - 117). On it stand two columns with inscriptions.
