The fort on the present church mountain was a part of the hinterland of Carnuntum.
It had the form of a square with the side lengths of 38.6 x 59 m. The corners were round. Up to now a tower was found outside of the northern wall.
The limes street ran approx. 300 m south of it. In the proximity also passed the street from Carnuntum to Scarabantia (Sopron). Also two guard towers of this street were discovered. A further guard tower appertained presumably to another street.
From this, not dated, fort nothing is to be seen today anymore. Only the reconstruction of a roman grave
slab in the wall of the defense church remained.
In the vicinity two farms were found. One of that was built in the second half of the 4th century AD. The residential building of the villa rustica had the measures of 13 x 20 m. Two rooms were heated with a channel heating. The outline of the foundations is today visible.
