Magnis (Carvoran), Willowford, Piper Sike and Lea Hill

Piper Sike, turret

Back to main survey Great Britain

The fort Magnis was built south of the wall at the Stanegate.

Nothing is to seen from it today anymore. The Roman Army Museum was built next to that. Obviously also stones of the fort and the wall were used as building material.

As the name already says, the museum is dedicated to the soldiers at the wall. Different topics are handled (arms|weapons, clothing, religion ...). A big model of the fort is to be seen also.

Wall stretch at WillowfordWide western is Willowford. It is a question of a well preserved wall stretch with turrets.

Further turrets are in Piper Sike and Lea Hill to seeVallum. The signal tower into Pike Hill was not linked into the wall system and was used presumably for the signalling about longer distance.
