Bar Hill

Bath house

Back to main survey Great Britain

The fort was a little below the highest point of the hill on its northern side.

The bath house is on a informative signum described nearer. About the principia and the rest of the fort no further information are available.

The fort was presumable mainly from wood and turf. This is however only a suggestion of me.

The bath house, at least in part, was however of stone. Interesting is, that it was within the fort, at its northern wall. It shows all usual rooms: Apodyterium, frigidarium, tepidarium, laconium, caldarium and latrines.

PrincipiaIn addition the principia was excavated. Also this was at least partial of stone. The number of the rooms at its rear part are not to make out exactly, it is a question of at least three. A well was in the courtyard.

Ditch of the Antonine WallBefore the fort the ditch of the Antonine Wall is to be recognized. Further structures of the fort - as gates, walls, towers - are not to make out.

West direction, down the hill, still a piece of the ditch is to be recognized.
