Here owned Tiberius Iulius Caesar Augustus a villa.
This stands out for two reasons. On the one hand
a grotto construction existed directly next to that, on the other hand many
statue(groups)
were found. The emperor had here almost loses
one's life because of falling
rocks.
From the villa still the foundation walls are to
see. Some rooms are bordering the
peristylium.
The grotto construction consists of a basin in front
of the grotto
. A smaller basin which is partitioned in 5 further ones by walls is in
its interior. Presumably a pisciculture was practiced here.
In the grotto
is a round baisin set up. In
some niches
were various statue groups. Above the grotto also so one was set up.
The found statue groups are exhibited in the near museum. Some of that handle the life of Odysseus. They were made presumable in the 2nd century BC as copies of Greek bronze sculptures.
