On his country seat near this place spent Lucius Cornelius Sulla his last years (79 - 78 BC).
Today few remains give evidence of this former important town.
The Anfiteatro Maggiore
was built under Claudius Drusus Germanicus Caesar (Nero) as an addition to the
Anfiteatro Minore,
because its capacity was too small. Both amphitheaters were simultaneous in use.
From the second
are only still few arcades and a part of the auditorium preserved. From the
first are the whole basement and the outside wall preserved.
Of the Tempio
di Nettono named thermal springs remained
still some higher walls. This construction was presumably combined with the Ninfeo di Diana.
Impressively is the
macellum.
Here even stand three columns. Furthermore the outline is to make out well.
Into the basilica San Procolo are columns of the Augustus temple built in. This was built instead of one samnitic temple.
In the proximity of the macellum is the Via Consularis Campana (today via Cella). Here are still some sepulchers to see.
