Saturday, 14.08.1999 - Ardon, Wallis

The excavation in the basement is to be reached through the church St. Jean.

A tape - French, German or English - can be played. This explains the individual building phases. The objects treated in the text are illuminated in each case, thus the orientation is easy. Furthermore there are five illustrated charts of the individual building phases. Description
To be seen is a grave building from the 4th or 5th century. Grave building

This was expanded in the Middle Ages to a church. The present church was again constructed at the end of the 19th century.

Just before the church were 1970 parts of a roman villa - which probably the grave building belonged to - dug up because of the building of an underpass and presumably destroyed. Description

Opposite the church is the community centre. Two consecration inscriptions are in its conservatory. One to Jupiter one to Mercury. These appertained presumably to the villa.
