Saturday, 07.08.1999 - Zell, Zurich
In the foundations of the late-Gothic church in Zell were 1958/59 parts of a roman villa discovered.
These were preserved and made accessible. The excavation is in the basement of the church next to the toilets in a room.
| The ground plan is visible on the opposite graphic. |
|
| The northern wall of a hall, parts of the corner projection and the rear wall of the portico are to be seen. |
|
| Also the position is interesting. The view seemed not to be grandiose. The site of the villa is from hills surrounded. In the south these are a little more far away. The vicus Vitudurm was in the proximity. |
|
Unfortunately
are on site no more precise information, how the villa looked. Presumably was only the foundation of the church examined. Because the find seemed to be surprising, no further finds are known in the region. It was presumably a question of a villa of middle size.| Page beginning |
