The book handles different aspects of the slavery in the antiquity, i.e. at the Greeks and Romans.

First is defined, what is understand by antique slavery and which forms of the unfreedom else still existed. Furthermore is explained under which circumstances one could be enslaved.

Archaeological finds are the first basis of this book, i.e. graves. This is complemented by ancient literary.
