This book is a standard work, which was published first in the year 1939. The author begins with Pompeius and ends with the death of Augustus.

Although the first edition dates already a longer time ago, most seems still to be valid today - although certainly there are also other opinions.

The present edition is based on a translation from the year 1957.

At sufficiently English knowledge should be read an English edition.
