This book describes the history of the Roman Empire. Nevertheless also assessments (for example the work of a person) are done.

The book begins in the 3rd millennium BC.

The individual eras of the republic time are explained more exactly. The same one is valid for the emperor's era up to the Severian house. The further years up to Diocletian are described only shortly.

At this time the book ends.

The book was published in 1973 for the first time. The 8th edition of 2001 has taken over the preceding one (from when?) unchanged.

From this reason all explanations are not certainly on the newest investigation state. Nevertheless also different points of view are mentioned.
