This book investigates different aspects of the roman games.

First is explained the difference between the public games and "private" gladiator contests. It does away furthermore with some, alleged known details (for example "morituri te salutant").

Finally the author attempts to explain, why the games were so popular - not completely to understand from present viewpoint - in the antiquity.

This book represents an important information source to this - normally not much handled - topic.
