| The Penguin Historical Atlas von Ancient Rome (Chris Scarre) |
This book describes the history, in particular the territorial evolution, of Rome, since the origin up to the fall of the western part.
A large emphasis is placed onto illustrations. Next to buildings are in particular shown maps of cities, provinces and special empires. On these maps are also drawn in battles and invasions of outside.
Up to now no other book is known to me, which shows the extension of the provinces and their capitals to different eras. Even if some must by scrutinized (for example Octodrum is indicated as the capital of the province Graiae et Poeninae although Axima (Aime-En-Tarantaise) is mentioned in all other sources).
